THE DESIGN
Two serpents move through a hand-brushed Yin–Yang circle: one enters from above in a pale scale field, while the other rises from below in deeper black. Their opposed paths make the circle feel alive rather than fixed.
Fine scale work gives the forms patient texture; the broken ink ring keeps the image grounded in a tactile, Chinese ink-inspired language. It is one complete composition, not separate snake ornaments.
CULTURAL STORY & SYMBOLIC MEANING
At the centre is the taijitu, widely recognised as the Yin–Yang symbol. In Chinese thought it describes complementary forces that contain and transform into one another, rather than a conflict between simple opposites.
Here, the paired serpents give that idea a bodily rhythm: descent answers ascent, dark answers light, and both return to the same centre. This is cultural and artistic symbolism for reflection, not a promise of protection, luck, healing, or any particular outcome.
COMPOSITION & TATTOO TRANSLATION
Best at approximately 14–20 cm high on the upper back or shoulder blade, or 10–14 cm on the outer upper arm or anterior shoulder. The forearm and outer calf also work when the circle remains upright and does not wrap too far around the limb.
The two heads, the full Yin–Yang division, the dots, and the brush ring are structural. Your artist may open only the tightest scale gaps for long-term legibility; the pair must not be mirrored, separated, or redrawn as independent motifs.
